Shabbat Dinner
Hillel offers weekly Shabbat dinners to students at 7:30pm. For those not on the Kosher meal plan, Shabbat meals can be purchased at a subsidized price. Once a month, Hillel hosts a community Shabbat dinner, which provides students with a free Shabbat meal! Community Shabbats often have themes and additional programming. To find out when the next community Shabbat will be, check the calendar.
Services
There is no better way to unwind and start a weekend than with Shabbat! On Friday night, Hillel has four different Shabbat evening services (minyanim).
- Chavurah: The Chavurah Minyan encourages all participants to pursue a meaningful connection with a greater power, through whatever means they like--be it prayer, song, meditation, or even dance--within a basic traditional egalitarian framework. The Chavurah minyan's services are song-filled, energetic and joyous. Begins at 6:00pm. Contact: Tricia Hassenfeld and Megan Brattain
- Orthodox: The Orthodox Minyan's service is a traditional one, with a mechitza (partition) separating men and women during prayers. Begins at 6:30pm. Contact: Ben Abiri
- Conservative: An egalitarian service in the Conservative tradition, that meets weekly for Kabbalat Shabbat and Maariv. Begins at 6:30pm. Contact: Yoni Dolgin and Rebecca Theise
- Reform: Brown Hillel's Reform Minyan aims to provide all students with a relaxed, comfortable place to worship on Friday nights. Begins at 6:30pm. Contact: Samantha Pohl
Saturday Morning Services
Hillel also offers weekly, student-led, egalitarian Saturday Morning services. Participation includes undergraduates, graduate students, professors and community members. For more information, contact Sara Mosenkis. Additionally, there is a biweekly Orthodox Shabbat morning minyan, which offers traditional services with a mechitza (partition between men and women).
